  • Benefits

Your status as a Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) member combined with the immense buying power of MOAA’s membership helped MOAA secure valuable benefits for you and your family. These high-caliber benefits are automatically included in your MOAA Leader Plan.

    • You are covered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year even if you're flying in a military aircraft.
    • Your family can take advantage of the savings, too. As a matter of fact, many officers take advantage of their MOAA membership to secure the affordable group rates for insurance on their spouse's1 life.
    • Your premium payments will be waived if a Sickness or Injury leads to a Total Disability, as defined in the Certificate, that keeps you from working at your current job. This is as long as your disability starts before age 60 while you are covered under the group policy and you stay Totally Disabled for at least six consecutive months. Your full Leader benefits continue at 100% and you owe nothing. The amount of your insurance will be based on the amount active at the time of disability and will be subject to the standard decreases at age 60.
    • You can collect up to 50% of your MOAA Leader Benefit Amount for an "Early Payout" before you die if your doctor certifies that you are Terminally Ill, as defined in the certificate, with less than twelve months to live and your premiums are paid. Receipt of the accelerated benefit may be taxable, or may adversely affect your eligibility for Medicaid or other government benefits. You should consult your personal tax advisor to assess the impact of this benefit.
    • Special Feature for Transitioning Officers — The Active Service Discharge Group Term Life Insurance Plan — You are guaranteed acceptance, with no medical exam, for up to $250,000 of coverage if you’re under age 50 and enroll within 270 days after your discharge from active uniformed service (provided your discharge is not health or disability related). If you are age 50 or over, you are guaranteed acceptance for up to $100,000 of coverage. If you enroll, this special guaranteed acceptance coverage is also extended to your spouse1. Your spouse1 would be eligible for up to 50% of your coverage amount, not to exceed the maximum coverage available based on your spouse’s1 age (up to $125,000 if under age 50 or up to $50,000 if age 50 or over). Click here to learn more.
    • Travel Assistance Service.3 What if you and your family are traveling (more than 100 miles from your home — even abroad) and you’re in an accident, lose your passport or need other assistance? Your Leader coverage will start on the first day of the month after your application has been approved by the insurer and your first premium has been paid. If you send a check with your application, your Leader coverage will begin on the first day of the month after your application is approved.

Your spouse1 will automatically be the beneficiary for your Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Life coverage. If your spouse1 is no longer living, your benefits will be paid to your children, parents, brothers and sisters, or estate (in that order). You will automatically be the beneficiary for your spouse's1 and children's coverage. If you'd like to designate a different beneficiary, please notify the plan administrator.

You can keep your Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Leader coverage for as long as you want no matter what your health as long as you remain a Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) member, pay your premiums on time and the Group Policy stays in force. Your spouse1 can keep his or her coverage for as long as their premiums are paid on time, their coverage has not expired, the group policy stays in force and they are not legally separated or divorced from you. Your children’s coverage will terminate once they no longer qualify as an eligible Dependent.

The only exclusion to the life coverage is suicide within the first two years of coverage or increase in coverage begins. Benefits paid for death caused by suicide, while sane or insane, within the first two years of the effective date of the insurance are limited to a refund of the premiums paid for the insured's insurance.

The Leader Plan can also help protect you if you have health problems. As a Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) member under age 60, you can qualify for the $10,000 MOAA Leader Silver Plan as long as you have been working for the past 90 days. This coverage features many of the same benefits found in the standard Leader Plan with coverage that increases from $2,000 to $10,000 over five years.

Your dependent’s coverage will remain in effect as long as your coverage is active, premiums are paid, and they meet the eligibility requirements.

  • Who is eligible for this insurance?

MOAA members and spouses1 under age 75 are eligible to apply. Dependent children to age 21 (or 25 if enrolled full-time in an institution of higher learning) are also eligible.
  • What if I have health problems?

The Leader Plan can also help protect you if you have health problems. As a Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) member under age 60, you can qualify for the $10,000 MOAA Leader Silver Plan as long as you have been working for the past 90 days. This coverage features many of the same benefits found in the standard Leader Plan with coverage that increases from $2,000 to $10,000 over five years.
  • How much life insurance would I need?

Everyone’s needs are different. However, underinsuring can have a major impact on our families, whether we have youngsters, almost-grown children or a spouse1 to consider. Life insurance can help replace lost income if you’re employed; the loss of your financial expertise even if you’re not. A lump sum benefit payment gives your family “replacement income” to help pay present living expenses (mortgage, utilities, car payments, etc.). It can also help keep the big goals alive, such as college for children or grandchildren and a secure retirement for your spouse1.
  • Do I have to meet with an insurance agent?

You can apply for this Insurance coverage over the Internet and the mail. You can review the materials in the privacy of your home and once your application is approved by the insurer, purchase your Insurance directly through the mail without meeting with an agent. You can, of course, talk to a customer service representative if you’d like by calling 1-800-247-2192.
  • Are non-tobacco rates available?

You qualify for non-tobacco rates if you haven't smoked cigarettes, cigars or used a pipe or chewing tobacco, nicotine product or snuff during the 12 months prior to the date you apply for coverage. Non-tobacco users applying for $100,000 in coverage or more and meeting the highest underwriting standards may qualify for the Preferred (the plan's best) rates. Other non-tobacco users may quality for Standard rates.
  • When is the coverage effective?

Your Leader coverage will start on the first day of the month after your application has been approved by the insurer and your first premium has been paid. If you send a check with your application, your Leader coverage will begin on the first day of the month after your application is approved.
  • What if I have second thoughts after I apply?

You will have 30 days from the date coverage is effective to review the insurance certificate. If you are not satisfied with the terms of the certificate, simply return it to the Insurance Administrator and any premiums paid will be refunded in full, provided no claims have been submitted or paid.
  • How do I apply?

To apply online click on the “Get a Quote Now!” button. Or, you can choose to download an application.
